It depends. At €24.30 for 24 hours the Classic Tour costs about twice a €11.20 BVG day ticket, which is cheap for a sightseeing bus, and it stops within 4 minutes of seven of Berlin's ten main sights.
The numbers behind the verdict
The weak points are a bus only every 25 to 30 minutes and a 2.5 hour loop, and public bus 100 covers much of the same road.
You want the 2.5 hour overview with commentary on your first morning. Berlin's sights are spread over 7 km from Kurfürstendamm to Friedrichshain.
You have two days. The 48-hour ticket costs €26.10, only €1.80 more than 24 hours.
You use a wheelchair or cannot walk far. Every bus has a ramp and one wheelchair space, and the fleet holds the Travel for All barrier-free certificate.
You want the audio guide in one of its 13 languages, which include Turkish, Arabic, Hebrew, Polish and Japanese.
Skip it if
You plan to hop off five or six times in a day. With a bus every 25 to 30 minutes, six stops can mean 2.5 hours of waiting.
You are travelling with children aged 6 to 14. Up to three ride free on one adult's €11.20 BVG 24-hour ticket.
The East Side Gallery or the Berlin Wall Memorial is your priority. The Classic Tour reaches neither.
You are happy on a normal double-decker. Bus 100 runs from Zoo past the Victory Column, the Reichstag and the Brandenburg Gate to Alexanderplatz on a BVG ticket.

The day cost is the BVG 24-hour ticket for zones AB at €11.20, valid for 24 hours from validation on every U-Bahn, S-Bahn, tram and bus.
A single AB ticket is €4.00 and lasts 120 minutes in one direction, so the 24-hour ticket is cheaper from the third ride.
Up to three children aged 6 to 14 travel free with an adult's 24-hour ticket and children under 6 always ride free.
A child travelling on their own ticket pays €2.50 for a single or €7.40 for 24 hours.
The 24-hour small group ticket covers up to 5 people for €35.30.

48 hoursLowest cost per day€26.10 Hop-on Hop-off Classic Tour 48 hours · €13.05 per day · 1.2 times public transport for the same days
Buy the 48-hour Classic ticket. It costs €26.10 against €24.30 for 24 hours, so the second day is €1.80.
With a 2.5 hour loop and the last full loop leaving stop 1 at 16:00, one day gives you the circuit plus two or three stops at most. Two days let you ride the full loop on day one and use the bus as transport on day two.
Online tickets are tied to the dates you select. There is no 72-hour ticket.
If you want the Wall sites, the combined two-line ticket is €28.80 for 24 hours and €32.40 for 48.
A BVG 24-hour ticket for zones AB costs €11.20, less than half the bus, and includes up to three children aged 6 to 14. Three public double-decker lines pass most of the same sights.
Bus 100 runs from Zoologischer Garten past the Victory Column, Schloss Bellevue, the Reichstag, the Brandenburg Gate, Unter den Linden and Museum Island to Alexanderplatz. Bus 200 links Zoo, Potsdamer Platz and Alexanderplatz.
Bus 300 goes from Potsdamer Platz along Unter den Linden and past Alexanderplatz to the East Side Gallery, which the Classic Tour misses. They run far more often than the sightseeing bus, but there is no commentary, the roof is closed and the front seats upstairs fill up fast.
Does it suit your trip?
With children
Children up to 5 ride the sightseeing bus free, two per paying adult, and children aged 6 to 15 pay half: €12.15 for 24 hours. A family ticket for 2 adults and 3 children is also sold.
Public transport is hard to beat for families in Berlin, because one adult's €11.20 BVG 24-hour ticket takes up to three children aged 6 to 14 for nothing. Two adults and two children pay €72.90 on the Classic Tour for 24 hours and €22.40 on BVG.
The Zoo stop (stop 18) is the one children will ask for. Pushchairs must be foldable and are carried only if there is space.
All buses have convertible roofs. The operator runs them open-top in spring and summer, and in the colder months or in rain the roof is closed, so you stay dry on both decks.
Waiting is the problem in bad weather: buses come every 25 to 30 minutes and the stops have no signs or shelters. Use the operator's app to see where the next bus is before you leave a museum.
The roof is open in summer and the top deck has no shade for a 2.5 hour loop, so ride early. The first bus leaves at 09:30.
The operator says buses are busiest around noon and that a seat is not guaranteed, so in July and August you may have to let a full bus go and wait another 25 to 30 minutes. Food is not allowed on board.
Drinks in a resealable bottle are.
If you cannot walk far
This is one of the better hop-on hop-off buses for wheelchair users. Every bus has a ramp and one wheelchair space, and the operator holds the German Travel for All barrier-free certificate.
With only one space per bus and a bus every 25 to 30 minutes, you may have to wait for the next one. The upper deck is reached by stairs.
For people who cannot walk far, the Classic Tour stops within 4 minutes of the Brandenburg Gate, the Reichstag, Museum Island, the TV Tower and Checkpoint Charlie.
Buy a BVG 24-hour ticket for €11.20 and ride bus 100 from Zoologischer Garten to Alexanderplatz, upstairs at the front if you can get the seats. Add bus 300 from Alexanderplatz to the East Side Gallery and tram M10 or the U8 to Bernauer Straße for the Berlin Wall Memorial.
If you want commentary, a walking tour of the Brandenburg Gate, Holocaust Memorial and Checkpoint Charlie area covers about 2 km on flat ground. A one-hour Spree boat from Museum Island gives a seated tour of the government district.
There are no bus stop signs on the street because local rules do not allow them. Download the City Sightseeing Berlin app, which shows every stop and the live position of the buses.
The last full loop leaves stop 1 (Tauentzienstraße) at 16:00 and buses stop running at 18:00. Do the far end of the route first.
The route runs one way. From the Brandenburg Gate (stop 13) back to Checkpoint Charlie (stop 6) by bus means going round through Kurfürstendamm, so walk the 1.3 km or take the U6 instead.
Online tickets are valid on the dates you select. Tickets bought from street sellers run 24 or 48 hours from the time they are printed.
Keep the earphones. They are free, yours to keep, and work again when you re-board.
Rotes Rathaus / Neptunbrunnen (stop 8) and Alexanderplatz (stop 9) are shared with the East Berlin line. Check the front of the bus before boarding if you hold a Classic-only ticket.
